Data Recovery: Physical and Logical Data Failure & Data Recovery Software.
Data Failure Affects Business & Home Computers
85% of all businesses that lose their database or business information go out of business within 2 years. As you would expect, businesses are very sensitive to data loss. To minimize data loss, businesses utilize some form of backup solution.
Database and Email Recovery are as important to businesses, as email and digital photos are to home computer users.
In many cases, clients that experience a catastrophic data failure learn that their backup solution has also failed.

Back Up Storage Failure
Backup solutions often utilize Network Attached Storage devices (NAS) such as file servers, external storage devices, tape backup solutions, RAID, DVD Burners, CD Burners, and so on.
Companies and individuals ultimately rely on Backup Solutions or some type of media backup to ensure they can recover and restore their lost data when they experience a hard drive crash, a server failure or a severe virus attack.
Restoring data from media can fail for many reasons. Our findings indicate that most storage media holding critical data fail for the following reasons:
Tape Drive Failure
- Worn, Stretched or Torn Backup Tapes Due to Overuse.
- Accidental Tape Reformatting Or Overwriting.
- Backup Software Corruption.
- Physical Impact.
- Electrical Damage - Lightening.
- Operator Error Configuring The Backup Set.
In many cases, clients that experience a catastrophic data failure learn that their backup solution has also failed.
This is where RestoreMyData can help.
RestoreMyData has a proven track record of recovering lost business data ranging from worn backup tapes, failed RAID systems or failed hard drives.

Understanding Data Loss
There are a host of variables that can produce computer data loss situations. Many of the variables describing how data can be lost, corrupted or destroyed are shown below.
Reasons for Data Loss
- Deleted Files.
- Read / Write Head Failure.
- Virus Attack.
- File Corruption.
- Hard Drive Crash
- Employee Sabotage.
- File Allocation Table Corruption (FAT16, FAT32).
- NT File System Corruption (NTFS).
- Hierarchical File System Corruption (HFS).
- Corrupted Programs.
- Deleted Partitions.
- Reformatted Hard Drives.
- Faulty Backup Software.
- Fire, Flood Or Earthquake Disasters.
Types of Data Failures
There are two types of hard drive failures. One data failure is known as a Physical Hard Drive Failure. Another type of disk failure is referred to as a " Logical Hard Drive Failure".
Physical Hard Drive Failure
A "Physical Hard Drive Failure" occurs when there is physical damage to any storage media. Physical data loss can result from faulty hard drives, defective CD's or DVD coatings, torn or worn storage tapes due to over usage. In many cases, data can be recovered after the media is treated, cleaned and physically repaired.
Some physical recoveries are very time consuming and can be expensive. In most cases, physical data recoveries offer excellent probabilities for a successful data recovery.
We find that performing a Data Recovery from a physically damaged hard drive are excellent, however, data recoveries will vary based on the cause of the hard drive failure. Factors such as a faulty circuit board electronics, worn hard drive bearings, damaged heads or burned out or seized motors will require a physical data recovery service.
If you experience a data failure and find your server backup or network disaster plan failed.

Causes of Logical Hard Disk Failures
- Corrupt NTFS, HFS or File Allocation Table.
- Electrostatic Discharge.
- Restore Corrupted Image.
- Registry Key Deletions.
- Intermittent Read/Writes Physical Failure.
- Deletion Of Critical Operating System Components.
- Virus Attack of Data Structure or Operating System.
- Software Program Badly Written.
- Software Non Compatible With Operating System.
- Deletion Of Partition Letter.
- No Free Disk Space Available.
Logical Hard Drive Failure
A hard drive that is physically functioning, recognized by the System BIOS, and not accessible to data, is likely to be experiencing a logical failure. The user may also note a "Format Error or Disk Error Message Such As "Disk Requires Format", "Disk Not Recognized", "Unrecognized Format" Do You Want To Format Disk Now?
These error messages are excellent indicators that your hard drive has undergone a Logical Hard Disk
Failure. Another indication is the hard drive properties of a partition or disk show the following error
message:
Used Space 0 GB, Free Space 0 GB, or Capacity 0 bytes or (0 GB).
If the user has knowledge that the lost data was on the respective hard drive or partition and afterwards notices a data loss, then a logical disk failure is confirmed.
Logical Errors - Missing Operating System
If the operating system resides on the drive or partition that has experienced the hard disk failure, then the computer will not boot. This computer failure is classified as a logical disk failure, since the hard disk or hard drive is recognized by the System BIOS.
Some users associate the term logical disk failure to "blue screen" or "screen of death". Computer users typically note a blinking cursor on the computer monitor or a message "Missing Operating System" (Black Screen).
